1. Browse native designs and jewellery.

It’s always nice wherever you’re travelling to get a little something that you wouldn’t be able to get back where you’re from. Native art is a huge part of life on the west coast of Canada and Vancouver Airport has some great little boutiques where you can pick up some special jewellery or decorations. Besides picking up something really cool to take home with you, shopping will help you relax before your flight.

2. Grab coffee at Green Bean Cafe.

Green Bean Cafe opens up at 5:00am and whether you want a freshly made espresso, vitamin-packed juice or even a cold beer (although, that one might be best to wait for) you can get it. They also have a selection of breakfast foods like samosas, muffins and grilled paninis. There’s no excuse to board your flight hangry!

3. Check out The Jade Canoe.

This year marks 20 years since The Jade Canoe came to YVR Airport. It was created by legendary Canadian artist Bill Reid and has come to be a landmark of sorts in Vancouver. As they say on their website, it’s where “the public and passengers meet prior to grand adventures” and where people have taken a quick photo op before dashing off to get their flights. You can learn some 20 facts about The Jade Canoe here.

4. Pamper yourself at Absolute Spa.

Ah, so relaxing. We’ve experienced the heaven that is Absolute Spa and we can’t wait to go back. Unfortunately, it’s not open right at 6am but if you can wait a little bit for your pamper session, the spas will be open between 7:00 and 7:30am. Trust us, it’s worth the wait.

5. Chill out in the Plaza Premium Lounge.

The Plaza Premium Lounge in the Domestic Terminal opens right at 6:00am on the dot so you’ll be able to get right in there as soon as you get to the airport. There are two other lounge locations, one in the US Terminal and one in International, but they don’t open until 8:30am and 8:00am, respectively. The lounges have work desks, charging stations and free wifi. This is a great place to go get a coffee and chill out before your flight.
