LGA: A New Airport for New York

I can’t wait to experience the new LaGuardia airport design! After all, having lived New York City for many years I’m pretty familiar with the airport.

LaGuardia has gotten a bad reputation for many reasons. For instance, the building is ancient and there are almost no amenities for travelers. Furthermore, there’s no easy public transportation to get there, either. Apparently, the airport also has an “antiquated air traffic system”—which definitely doesn’t make things easier.

LaGuardia is also considered one of the worst airports for delays and congestion. It finished last for “on-time performance” among U.S airports last year. Yikes!

The new LaGuardia airport design

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, together with Delta CEO Ed Bastian, announced the start of construction for Delta’s new facilities this summer.

According to Cuomo, their “plan will fundamentally transform LaGuardia—replacing what is now an outdated and poorly designed complex with the world-class airport New York has always deserved.”

This marks the final build out of the new design at LaGuardia. The new airport will provide travelers with state-of-the-art amenities and expanded public transportation—including the planned AirTrain.

The latest renderings of LaGuardias new airport design display the interiors of the arrival and departure areas, baggage claim and restaurants. Above all, we noticed—and love—the extensive green spaces! Green areas enhance mood and are known to calm our sensory experience.

Strangely enough, it’s rumoured that the airport will have a giant Jeff Koons Balloon Dog too. Which is perfect for all the NYC art lovers out there! The more than 1.3 million square feet of the new Central Terminal Building will also have vast amounts of natural light. Presumably, they will also have a variety of healthy food options for passengers as well!

It’s exciting that we will soon walk through a brand new LaGuardia airport. Most of all, I’m looking forward to experiencing the air train to get into the city! More amenities will mean less stressful travel and a boost our well-being.
