Qantas’ New In-flight Meditation Is Great For Your Mental Health

As we all know, day-to-day life can get pretty stressful. If you travel frequently, irregular schedules, hours spent in lines and on planes and carrying heavy luggage can take a serious toll on your health both physically and mentally.

Qantas Airways’ new in-flight meditation content is a great way to pass the time and clear your mind.

Why Qantas’ in-flight meditation is great for your mental health

The program is conducted via a video series that’s accessible through the airline’s in-flight entertainment system. It comprises 10-minute guided meditation sessions set to aerial footage of some of the most beautiful landscapes around Australia. Choose from Sydney Harbour, the Mornington Peninsula, Rottnest Island or Ormiston Gorge.

According to a Qantas press release: “Customers can choose from five different scenes including Australian deserts, bushlands, coasts, forests and locations at twilight as they listen to the meditation.”

Qantas’ Chief Customer Officer Vanessa Hudson said the expanded in-flight entertainment offering opened up more opportunities for customers to enjoy some “me time” during their flight.

We completely agree that there is great value in being able to take time for yourself in-flight, especially with the aid of guided meditations and beautiful imagery to help you envision more inspiring surroundings.

The series is currently available to view on YouTube, and an immersive virtual reality version can be downloaded before traveling via the Qantas VR App.

But for those keen to try it on board, the video series will be available from June 2018 on Qantas’ in-flight entertainment system.

The importance of good mental health while traveling

On a recent flight I took from Toronto to Las Vegas I found it very difficult to get into a peaceful headspace with airline noise, bright lights, uncomfortable seats and chatter from people around me. Having the assistance of a meditation program to follow in-flight would have made a huge difference to my mental wellbeing on that flight. It would have helped me feel calmer and more refreshed upon arrival.

Being in a good frame of mind while traveling has important ramifications for the happiness and success of your trip, whether you’re headed to a conference on business or taking a vacation with the family. It can give you more energy and a more positive outlook throughout your trip and beyond. You may find yourself more productive at work and more enthusiastic in client meetings, and you may be able to handle the stresses of vacationing with the family more easily.

While we have a chance to disconnect from emails and wifi for a few hours, it’s a great opportunity to spend some time dedicated to your mental health.
